Welcome to the most ecologically sound lodging choice in Ohio's Vacationland!
Joe Jessen, owner of McKenna's Inn, has since 1999 made every effort to be as "green" as possible. Each year he has instituted new ways to reduce the inn's impact on the environment. As an ecological exclamation point at the end of the first 10 years was installed a wind turbine to provide renewable energy for the inn. As big a project as the wind turbine was, Joe does not consider it to be a coda to his efforts.
Joe believes he can and should continue to explore new ways to reduce the amount of resources which he and his guests use while not interfering with the comfort or enjoyment of anyone who stays at McKenna's Inn. Most of what is done in the way of conservation happens in the background but Joe welcomes and appreciates guest involvement and interest whenever it may arise.
Thank you very much for your interest in McKenna's Inn and its ongoing implementation of the very important mantra for the new century - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.
Below are some of the things which are being done at McKenna's Inn on a daily basis to help it remain the best green lodging choice in Ottawa County:
Recycling (cans, glass, plastics #1 and #2, paper, cardboard)
Water conservation efforts indoors. Rainwater collection in place.
Reduction in energy consumption whenever possible. Even though we create our own electricity when the wind is blowing, we see no reason to be wasteful. We are well on our way to converting all lighting to compact fluorescent or LED. We have begun replacing all major appliances with new, energy star rated versions.
We are beginning to implement our long - term organic gardening plan this year. Raised beds will be constructed and filled and the plans for next years first plantings will be made. Additionally, if time allows, we will construct a henhouse for a number of chickens which we will welcome to the fold next year. All these efforts will, in the long term, help us reduce our reliance on so much of our food coming from so far away and also reduce our need to travel to the supermarket so very often (in the car, of course).
